Big Papi has been offered a 2 year deal!

And the gods themselves rejoiced.

More to come soon.

I have to (sigh) go back to work. Hopefully I’ll come back to GREAT news?

Let’s convince Papi to take the gig in the comments section.

Ortiz has been busy, apparently.

Papi, couldn’t you take a 5-minute-sign-with-the-Sox break?

Multiple reports from an “anonymous source” (raise your hand if you’re tired of anonymous sources) say he’ll agree to arbitration by midnight.

So stay tuned.

9:15 p.m.- Conflicting reports on arbitration status (ignore the Cherington quote in that article on Varitek. It will make you cry).

It is 3:54 p.m. Wednesday at the worst day of work ever. The latest says arbitration. But they’ve been going back and forth all day.

Whatev. If I could light things on fire with my mind, well, this office would be smoking. Do you ever imagine your chair just sinking into the floor tiles? No? Um. Me neither…

That is more then I would offer him. he should be happy with that offer and if he isn’t then goodbye. Players have no loyalty I have no loyalty. If he turns this down then he never wanted to be here.

      Remember, root for the shirt.

Yep, looks like you guys got him back. Nice job. Now my Tigers need to sign Aramis Ramirez.

    I think he accepted arbitration

One rumor says he has decided to accept it and the other says he has not. No one really knows.

I really couldn’t imagine David Ortiz playing for another team now. It would just be wrong.

The news just said Ortiz and Sox strike a new deal. No other news mentioned yet.

They said he will accept arbitration because he can make 15 million which means this was all about the money, shocking NOT, whatever

The internet’s still not saying anything’s definite. Stupid internet.

Ha ha, I would rather have one or two years with Papi than a 10 year deal with Pujols.

Papi…just sign right here…dotted line. You can do it…

Several news people reported no one else was offering him the money Boston was. We win by default.

Arbitration is a great deal for the Red Sox.

You know that girl that posts here and is an Angel’s fan and is always whining about the money the red sox pay their players? Tell her it is time to STFU.lol

You now have to shut up. In fact this puts you above the Sox but in line with the Yankees. Only two teams have given one p;layer a ten year deal that is the Angels and the Yankees,

I feel bad for ST Louis. Albert sold them out and took the money. At least they have a world series.

Do you mean me FireDanny? Gosh, I hope not. I know lots of Angels fans do gripe about payroll but I’ve never been one of them. Sure the Angels used to be a payroll underdog team but that was decades ago. Even before Pujols, the Angels have had one of the top 5 payrolls in the MLB for about a decade now. Griping about spending when there are at most only 4 teams spending more than the Angels (often less and this season definitely less) would be delusional. That and, for crying out loud, if every team had the ability to spend this kind of money, they absolutely would. No team would ever say “Gosh, we suddenly have all of this money but I just don’t think it’s right to spend it signing high end players. That would destroy the “purity” of the game.” So actual lower payroll teams shouldn’t complain too much either. 🙂

Hey Too Soxy, I saw that the Internet finally got less vague and confirmed that Papi has accepted arbitration and I wanted to drop by and say Congrats! As much as I hate facing him, I’m glad to see him stay in a Red Sox uni. It just seems right.
