Speaking of people who should… um… kind of retire…

Wake needs to retire. It was a good run as a knuckleballer, but it just isn’t effective anymore… Didn’t he give up like six runs in his 200th win?

If they keep ‘Tek to mentor Salty and Lavarnway, I’m not sure Papi will stay. If ‘Tek goes, Papi will probably stay. Oswalt would be sweet: low-cost (sort of), high return (maybe). Buerhle would eat innings like they were fried-chicken in the ninth. Darvish makes too much sense, regarding Bobby V’s ability to ‘humanise’ Japanese players (What the eff is that anyway? Humanise.
And they should sign Pedro to a one day deal, so he can retire where he should.
Why retire when there are teams dumb enough to sign them to three or four year deals.
Say what you want about old man Wakefield but he was big for us last year with all the injuries. I see NO reason we can’t bring him back in the same role.
The media played it that the Red Sox used Wake far more than they wanted too and that he sucked during that time but that is a complete lie. FACT is Wakefield left the game 3 times winning and he also left with the game tied a few times and all these leads were lost by our lovely bullpen.
You also need to stop quoting Johnny Damon. I always skip over his name and since reading these quotes I want to go stab him with a red sox pitch fork. Why do they keep asking him his opinion?
Wake pretty much pitched to what is ERA indicated, but some of those were good games. You are right about the bullpen losing leads for him, I couldn’t understand why the media kept harping on how long it took HIM to win that big one, when the bullpen kept giving wins away. However it did often appear that his knuckleball would be working well, then all of a sudden there would be a couple baserunners, then a 3 run homer, then some more baserunners and POOF! the lead was gone. His knuckler would go from moving and missing bats for innings at a time, then one inning it doesn’t move until it lands in the Charles. I would like them to find out why this was happening and get it fixed. If we bring him back. And if we ever have a pitching coach.
I think with Damon it’s not a matter of why anyone ask’s his opinion, but why does anyone stop to listen to what he has to say, especially about other teams and situations that he hasn’t been a part of in years. Because I’m sure he is always yapping about other peoples business, probably even when he’s alone.
The Boston media likes to listen to Damon because they secretly hate our teams. They love to make the fans and the teams miserable unless your a Celtic, then you get a free pass for life unless your name is Antoine Walker. Then even when you play on a broken knee they give you no credit and cusofy you for doing what your coach told you to do. Do you have 8 hours. I can totally rant on the free pass the Celtics get from the media for hours and hours and hours and…..:)
As for Wakefield I am not saying he is perfect. I agree with you he has some sucky innings last year but he did a lot for this team that I don’t think he gets credit for. Give him a few million and use him as long relief or a starter if needed. I think he deserves that and I am not a Wake fan.
Damon sounds like a Curt Schilling in the making. There isn’t a thing he won’t dish on and he requires no one to ask him anything. Won’t stop chatting…ever.
