Page was ‘surprised.’ And Youk is ‘less than pleased.’

As we reported yesterday on TooSoxy (and by we, I mean me. It’s not like the universe would create more than one of me, mind you), Dave Page was axed. And, while the loss of a chicken n’ beer club’s strength and conditioning coach may not surprise the comedians in all of us, it did certainly surprise one person: Dave Page.

We had a great program in my opinion and we added to it a little every year. But sometimes perception goes a long way whether it’s right or wrong.

I take Hardball‘s stance in that this might be the motto for the whole fricking season: Sometimes perception goes a long way whether it’s right or wrong.

…at least a half-dozen players called him after news of the firing, adding that “Papelbon and Youkilis were less than pleased. I can tell you that.” Interestingly, none of the pitchers implicated in the beer/fried chicken/video games stuff were included on the list of callers.

As longtime soxies know, anytime Youkie is less than pleased, I am irate. IRATE.

Yesterday, I was … eh…

Today. I am irate. Thanks, Youkie, for sharing the proper emotional response. Less. Than. Pleased. You wordsmith, you.

I miss Kevin Youkilis more than I miss baseball.

Globe’s Shaughnessy says it’s “weak:”

“He might have been gone anyway; who knows? But now it looks . . . exactly like they’re trying to pick out a scapegoat: ‘Let’s get the low guy on the totem pole and dixie him.’ I think it’s weak.”

Concluded Shaughnessy: “It makes your organization look kind of slimy here. It’s not good.”

I have no idea what his real duties are. But, the Sox have had an amazing number of games missed with tweaks and strains the last couple years. I have no idea if he has any control over that though.

    Wasn’t the scapegoat Tito?

Wow, just to think what 2011 could have been for the BoSox if none of this stuff went on.

Dear Red Sox players. YOUR OPINION DOESN’T MATTER. You are players, shut up and play

Lots of pointing fingers. Prob should be on the bench during games but who cares about beer in the clubhouse? Its baseball not tennis or figure skating.
