Realignment: Then we could see the Brewers every day!
Let’s be honest. Brutally. Smack you with lightning honest for a sec, k? ALE is, unequivocally, the Goliath of baseball, clubbing down other divisions with its caveman stick.
And I’m not just talking the Brewers that got brewed (even though, we had 14 hits off them, and they are FIRST in their division… did that FEEL like a first-in-their-division team to anyone? Of course… we’re ones to talk… ahem, White Sox, ahem). I’m being general in my generalization.
We’ve got the Yankees (and, with underworld minions on their side, they occasionally kick ass), the weirdly lucky Tampa, those vengeful Blue Jays. The Orioles do. Not. Stand. A. Chance. I would feel sorry for them. You know. If it weren’t for Buck Showalter.
But seriously, think about it.
There’s all this talk of realignment. Interesting discussion, especially in a sport that still uses its original wooden bats.
Would it give these little teams a fighting chance?
When you hit at the level the Stanks and the Sox have been hitting, it doesn’t matter where you are.
But for teams like the Marlins and the Orioles, teams that just can’t get a break, it could give them a push and better play-off odds.
Plus, attendance is down across the board- UNLESS a popular team comes to town. The Red Sox hit Atlanta? You can’t buy tickets fast enough. I’ve seen this first hand in Charlotte with the AAA Knights. Empty seats. Then the PawSox come to town? Stadium fills. Good for business. If realignment made for more variety, it might up attendance at small-market parks.
The consensus by those experts seems to be 15 and 15, 15 National League to 15 American League, meaning a nat. leaguer will have to switch. I am voting for the Brewers (aren’t they fun to play?) but it’s probably going to be something lame like Texas.
There are lots of ideas out there, and clearly I need to educate myself on the issue… but it’s something worthy of comment discussion. Seriously, it’s “simple math” that means it’s easier for an American League team to make it to the World Series than a National League team. Is that fair? Or is that just the way the cookie crumbles?

You know, we should realign around who I like to play. We could play the Brewers. And the Cubs. And the Marlins! Oh, and the Mets! Wow. You know, if we just hopped the fan van to the National League, we would kick ass. And have you seen Beckster hit a homer? It’s sexy.

This whole plan smacks of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Not to mention, I’m officially over any ideas coming from the Selig regime.
I hate this idea, too. And, watch it! Texas is not lame! Just really really hot. But not as hot as Arizona. (And that wasn’t a sick joke about wildfires, either…it’s hotter in AZ than it is here…) The Astros are lame, though. My opinion? We need four divisions in each league with four teams each (this would require actually ADDING two teams). No wild card. First place in each division goes to playoffs. This stupid idea from “Bud Lite,” the worst commissioner ever, makes baseball more like basketball and hockey. Next thing you know, we’ll be assigning points to wins and losses and having home run derbies after 9 innings. Wait. That might actually be fun… Hey, Selig…c’mere. I wanna show you something…
Could we add a team in North Carolina? Thanks. And could they be in the Red Sox’s division? Awesome. And we could put the other team in… the Dakotas? Is there a team in a Dakota? Another one in Canada?
What? Why do we need another team in Canada?? I was thinking Las Vegas needed one to round out the ALW. Then the Rangers wouldn’t have to be saddled with three teams on the west coast. They would be in the AL South. North, South, East, and West in each league. A team in NC would be fine, but there are already too many teams in the Red Sox’s division. I’m not sure there are enough people to support a team in the Dakotas. Kind of like Wyoming, you know? Or maybe we need to have a team in the Dominican Rebuplic. So many of our players come from there.
